Apart from coverage, the book is well edited, attractively laid out, and makes productive use of its four-color format. Abundant figures and tables help explain and enumerate basic concepts as needed. A feature that is found in several parts of the book that I found particularly appealing is the detailed sourcing of information. This is a very good book, and will serve many practitioners and students of forensic DNA typing as a single source reference. It could also serve as a text for a one semester graduate level course in forensic DNA typing and technology. It is hard to think of a topic in forensic DNA typing that is not treated in the book. Accordingly, it will be a sort of standard reference book in the area. If there are plans to keep the book up to date every few years, it has the potential to become the standard reference, perhaps something akin to Clarke in drugs and toxicology. A final point is that the book is a phenomenal bargain in this day and age at around $80 a copy. There are probably minor things about which one could quibble, but it doesn’t seem productive to do so when the overall product is so good. - Journal of Forensic Sciences

Since it was first used in a criminal investigation in 1986, forensic DNA testing has become not only one of the most high profile tools available to the legal system, but also one with a very high degree of confidence. The use of DNA testing has helped determine the perpetrators of violent crimes, resolve questioned paternity and identify the remains of missing persons or victims of mass disasters.
John Butler has been involved, first in the validation of the short tandem repeat (STR) markers that form the basis of the FBI's nation-wide DNA database (CODIS) and, lately, in the development of new and innovative technologies that may influence the future of the field. Outstanding Text Book on Forensic Science

This book is an outstanding text book for those interested in Forensic Science, Genetics, and Genealogy. However, like most text books you must realize text books are often 3-6 years behind latest science and technology. In the case of Genetics and Genealogy markers, this book is 6 years behind. However, it is put together with enough information to give the reader an expert understanding and appreciation of both the science and the technology.

Forensic DNA Textbook

I will be using the text for my fall class at the University of Florida this fall. I just started getting into the chapters, but I like how the author brings in case history to explains different topics covered. The inclusion of charts, graphs and pictures also adds to the students comprehension of the material. I also like that the author gives numerous reference sites should additional information be sought. Oh! and I like that this book is availabe on-line or available for the Kindle reader. :)

A pretty good spin-off, but not by Andrzej Sapkowski

As a fan of the book series, I was skeptical at first since it was done by a different author. With that being said, Tobin does a wonderful job of capturing the allure of the Witcher book series and Geralt as a character. However, the dialogue seemed a little strange for him at times, but not a huge fault. I wasn't a huge fan of the art style, but again, it wasn't bad and it did fit pretty well.

The Witcher: House of Glass, Vol 1

This is probably one of the best graphic novels I have read in my life. The story is very well driven with a good and satisfying twist to it. The art is fair, but this fact makes it fit better into the Witcher Universe. I was hooked on it since the first page. If you have read the Witcher novels and love the games, this will be a great addition to your collection. The Witcher: House of Glass has so much to offer, to fans of the series and to newcomers alike.

Where does the term DYSPRAXIA come from? What does it really mean? This book gives the answers!

An incredibly rich book for professionals with an understanding of SI theory and concepts, that illustrates how Ayres came to coin the term "developmental dyspraxia". The book starts with a contemporary view of dyspraxia by Professor Sharon Cermak from the University of Southern California. (She has published her own book on Developmental Coordination Disorder about 10 years ago.) Then Ayres lays out her clinical reasoning on how to apply knowledge from adult apraxia to children. This book really makes it clear that the Problem in dyspraxia is Ideation and Motor planning - just as in apraxia - and not motor coordination. There is also a chapter on speech apraxia, a Topic not so common for OTs, but maybe this draws the interest of some speech and language therapists to this book.
In my opinion a book that has to be part of any SI specialist's library!

I would like to see a follow-up book looking at current research. Research has significant increased since the time of her writing.

About the Author
Dr Catherine C. McGeoch is the Beitzel Professor of Technology and Society in the Department of Computer Science at Amherst College. Professor McGeoch was co-founder (with David S. Johnson) in 1990 of the Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS) Implementation Challenges. In 1999 she co-founded (with Michael Goodrich) the annual Workshop on Algorithm Engineering and Experimentation (ALENEX), sponsored by SIAM. She was Editor-in-Chief of the ACM Journal of Experimental Algorithmics from 2003 to 2008 and currently serves on the ACM Publications Board.

Excellent reading. This book brings the basics on algorithm experimentation and contains very important tips to perform experiments with rigor. The reading is very easy and the examples and exercises very interesting.

Vibrant and humorous account of life in Crete (Greece), seen from the viewpoint of an English newcomer.
Freida Richards, her husband and various animals emigrated to Crete. This is a vivid account of the challenges they faced there, with acute insight and observations about the Cretan psyche, customs and lifestyle. Freida was faced with a huge challenge when observing the terrible plight of abandoned dogs on the island of Crete and she set up her Animal Protection work to re-habilitate and home these poor animals.
A compelling, compassionate and interesting read, giving us more understanding of the suffering these animals have been through. Proceeds from the sale of the book to the animal rescue work.
