A Complete Guide to Technical Analysis

Now don't get me wrong by the title, there are more methods of Technical Analysis than Schwager covers in this book...However, his many years of actually trading against analytical methods has given him great insight and time to study, characterize and rate the value of many of the most common analytical methods. He is quick to point out in several places in the book that these are "Western" analytical methods, practiced in the Euro-American world of futures trading.
The beginning of the book is a laborious and elementary but complete description of basic technical techniques. The later chapters talk about building trading systems using combinations of the techniques discussed in the beginning. There is a fair amount of history lesson given as to how the methods were 'discovered' or derived. In general, although ponderous to get through, I think that this detailed analysis allows the reader to believe in the method, the author, and the application of the method.
I highly recommend this book as the single basic reference that a technical trader cannot ignore.

There is a Cheaper Version of This Book

I first read his book in paperback "Getting Started in Tech Analysis." Both books cover the same info, except the above reviewed book has more details on trading systems and has a lot more graphs and examples, which I felt I did not need. I would recommend the less costly paperback version - it is EXCELLENT!

"Every personality is the child of an individual vision (Ascendant) and of a set of collective habits (second house), Rudhyar writes. The great person is one who uses such habits to demonstrate the vision - and thereby repolarizes them. The weak personality lets collective habits use the vision which thereby becomes distorted and materialized. Every personality is a field of integration for individual vision (first house) and collective habits (second house) - our inner life is very often a battlefield! It is in the third house that the issue . . . is determined; for it is the quality of the person's environment and of his mentality (largely conditioned by education) which will decide in the third house whether the fourth house factors (ego, home, and so on) will be energized preponderantly either by those developed in the first house or those belonging to the second house."

PLANETS IN THE FIFTH HOUSE
"When a strong planet or a group of planets are located in the fifth house of a natal chart this does not mean the native will necessarily be a particularly gifted artist, or a great lover, or the progenitor of many children, and so on. It indicates, rather, that matters related to this house will be insistently the focal point for the person's attention. The native will be involved in fifth house issues and experiences by apparent choice or by compulsion . . . They will create problems which will demand a solution.

Problems however constitute opportunities for growth and for 'creative accomplishment' - thus the title of this series. Where there are no problems, the mind and will of the individual are not roused into operation . . ."

MOON IN THE ELEVENTH HOUSE
"The Moon in the eleventh house signifies a person highly sensitive to social moods and changes, who is often the mouthpiece of some great mass-movement seeking expression in a subterranean manner. The spiritual-occult systems proclaimed by Rudolph Steiner are much involved in personalized states of consciousness and dependent on personal 'revelations'. Indeed, it might be argued the 'revelations' of the seer could merely be projections of his collective, national and personal 'hopes and wishes' and fears and prejudices, rather than authentic and significantly interpreted revelations of spiritual realities. The traditional chart of Joan of Arc shows Moon conjunct Jupiter in the eleventh house - indeed an excellent symbol for one whose "Voices" saved a Kingdom . . ."

DANE RUDHYAR (1895-1985) was the most important and influential astrologer of the 20th Century, introducing reforms to the ancient practice many practitioners and writers today take for granted. Rudhyar was also probably the most prolific astrological writer, contributing more than 20 books and almost 1,000 articles to modern astrology.

Philosophy and emotion in Houses

I think the importance of this book in the understanding of houses can not be understated. I was tipped off this this book by Tom Lescher in one of his Pele reports. Before each house is explained, its relation to the horizon and meridian is taken into context, and the relation of each house to three member houses is considered. For instance, the fourth, the beginning hints of the native as a person outside their self is carefully developed. I know this sounds strange, but the writing practically brought me to tears as the description of this important growth of the native was exposed, and the movement through the first three houses was explained.

I will have to read all of Rudhyar's books - they seem too profound to ignore.

I wanted to get up to speed quickly on ASP web apps and e-commerce so I bought this book for it's tutorial value.

It's a very easy read; succinct and well organized. No goofy jokes or silly icon symbols. Treatments of requirements gathering and UML are so light they're nearly useless. However, the book is a case study and tutorial, not a treatise on a particular discipline.

I rate it 4, because it's BLOATED with HTML and C# code. But, no need to type it, since it's available on-line. OTOH, its inclusion is a quicker reference than digging around on disc.

Looks like a very good choice for following a complete project and learing the essentials of ASP.NET 2.0 E-commerce.

Good starting point for layered architecture

Overall a pretty good book that covers design and implementation concepts that can be used for nearly any type of ASP.NET application. Although I understand why the author chose to exclusively use Stored Procedures to implement database access, I do wish he implemented some functionality that didn't use stored procedures in order to futher demonstrate the use of Microsoft Data Access Application Blocks.

I would absolutely recommend reading ASP.NET 2.0 Website Programming: Problem - Design - Solution (Programmer to Programmer) in addition to this book in order to get a more complete coverage of architecting a multi-layered application.

This book provides a good starting point for developing new E-Commerce applications. It does not reveal everything you need to know, but what it says are quite basic. So if you can learn a few tricks from this book, it does well worth the money!

Sanchez was known to virtually every European and American who read the news between 1970 and 1990, but it was his moniker, Carlos the Jackal, that signified his status as a household word. During Sanchez’ reign as what has been called, “the first super terrorist,” the world found it unthinkable that any future attack on society could outdo his spectacular raids on Western targets, specifically European ones. Why was this book written and why didn't somebody with some knowledge of Entebbe read this book before publication

I usually like the short books by Charles River Editors but I strongly dislike this book Carlos the Jackal: The Life of the 20th Century's Most Notorious Terrorist. I will provide a quote from location 295 that will explain some of my dislike "the nine Jews among the 248 captives were already set free, but when agents of the Mossad and combined elements of the Ugandan army and police stormed the plane in the middle of the night, the terrorists were killed." This event is called Entebbe, if Israel had worked with Uganda at this time, at a minimum the hostages would have been moved and they may have all been killed. My other irritation about this book is that I don't understand why it was written because it is not clear what terrorism events that Carlos the jackal participated in. In theory he was a terrorist James Bond. I do not recommend this book.

I have the Haynes manual for every vehicle I've owned. This manual met my expectations. It's more than adequate in providing detailed instructions on car tune up procedures. I would've like to see some pictures in color.
