About the Author
Martin Simons' interest in aviation goes back more than sixty years. He remains actively involved in designing, building and flying model aircraft and full-scale sailplanes. Born in England in 1930, he now lives in Australia where for twenty-five years he was a senior lecturer in education at the University of Adelaide. He has published numerous articles and several books on model flying and was the editor of Australian Gliding magazine for ten years.

Model Aircraft Aerodynamics - indespensible book

Covers fundamentals of model aircraft design and engineering in a way that ferrets out the subtle and significant considerations for building a small scale aircraft. Martin Simons long experience with small scale aircraft shows the value and limits of advanced math applied to aircraft. Yet, the book use of math is practical and does not require advanced math. This book is one of the most useful relevant books I have read in this area. It is a how-to cookbook to improve most aspects of model aircraft construction and can be used for ARF (almost ready to Fly) kit planes and really tweak them for high performance flying. You will not regret getting this book!
Someone liked my copy so much I had to re-order, the newer version is definitely an improvement.

Great resource, but little math

Having ordered a few useless airplane R/C books I was glad that this contained a lot of relevant and interesting information that was well explained. There were no boring parts. I have the 5th edition. A great resource.
The one con of this book is similar to the other useless airplane R/C books. No math! I do not understand this need to treat the R/C community like idiots and to effectively tell them "try it, if it doesn't work try something else." I only wonder if the previous editions had math. But even with that I'd still give this book five stars, considering what's out there.

Fantastic reference for model airplane design theory. Buy it!

This is a fantastic volume of design theory, for model airplanes.
It is a compilation of theory from about 1 9 7 0 to the present. It is very organized, explanatory, and analytic. I learned something new on almost every page. The greater value to me was that this author does not just preserve opinions, but analyzes design choices. The result is that he shows that much lore about building model airplanes is theoretically wrong.
I have read this volume about 5 times over already. It is the best reference book on design theory that I have encountered.
